With every Every Rock Has a Story series release, 15 new Story Rock characters are introduced... and there is only one real Story Rock for each character.
Each one is individually created and handcrafted by author Jessamine Hallow before becoming a character in the Every Rock Has a Story world. Every Story Rock has its own feature book, where children can discover their story, personality, challenges, and adventures. But their story doesn’t end there!
Story Rock characters can also appear throughout other books in the series alongside their friends. When your child adopts a Story Rock, they can continue reading the series and watch for their very own character and all of their Story Rock friends along the way.
Because each character begins with one original, handcrafted Story Rock, only 15 Story Rocks are available for adoption with each series release. Once they’re adopted, they’re adopted for good.
What’s Included With an Adoption?
A Story Rock adoption is more than bringing home a painted rock. Your child is welcoming home an actual character from the Every Rock Has a Story series.
Each $15 adoption, plus shipping, includes:
- The original, one-of-a-kind Story Rock
- Their own little blankie
- A Story Rock stuffie
- A signed Author Proof of that Story Rock’s feature book
- An official Story Rock Adoption Certificate for your child to complete with their grown-up
There are no duplicates or replicas of the character rocks. The Story Rock your child receives is the actual Story Rock that inspired their character.
How the Adoption Lottery Works
Because there are only 15 Story Rocks available with each series release, adoptions are offered through our Story Rock Adoption Lottery.
Parents or grown-ups can submit an adoption application on behalf of their child. When Story Rocks are ready to find their forever homes, children will be selected from the adoption lottery and matched with an available Story Rock.
If your child is selected, an email will be sent to the grown-up’s email address provided on the adoption application. The email will introduce you to the Story Rock selected for your child and provide instructions for completing the adoption.
You’ll have three days from the time of notification to confirm your interest and complete the $15 adoption payment plus shipping. If the adoption isn’t completed within that time, the Story Rock may be offered to another child waiting for a forever friend.
The Story Continues After Adoption
One of our favorite parts of Story Rock adoption is getting to see what happens after a Story Rock finds their forever home.
Grown-ups are encouraged to share photos, adoption stories, adventures, celebrations, and everyday moments with their child’s Story Rock on our Every Rock Has a Story Facebook page.
Take your Story Rock on vacation. Celebrate a birthday together. Build them a tiny home. Introduce them to the family pet. Show us where they keep their blankie at night.
And don’t forget to follow along with the other Story Rocks! Our Facebook community gives families a fun way to keep up with their Story Rock’s friends and see the adventures they’re having with their new families.
Your child’s adventure might even inspire a story…
From time to time, a real-life Story Rock adventure shared by a family may inspire an idea for a future book or an appearance from one of our adopted characters.
If Jessamine would ever like to incorporate something your family has shared into the series, she will contact the child’s grown-up first and ask permission. Nothing shared by a family will be incorporated into a story in this way without the grown-up’s permission.

With only 15 original character rocks available per series release, not every child who loves the Story Rocks will be able to adopt one.
But every child can create a Story Rock of their own!
At select community events, vendor markets, and private events, children can visit Anaya’s Story Rock Design Academy and become an Official Story Rock Designer.
For just $7, children get to decorate and create their very own Story Rock character, and graduate from the Design Academy with their own certificate!
It’s a chance for children to take the imagination, creativity, and message behind Every Rock Has a Story and create a character that is completely their own.
