Every Rock Has a Story is a children’s book series created to help young children explore emotions, relationships, social skills, and real-life experiences through lovable characters, gentle storytelling, and a little bit of magic.
At the heart of the series is a simple idea: sometimes it’s easier for children to understand something when they can see someone else experience it first.
Instead of simply telling children how they should behave or how they should feel, the Story Rocks experience challenges of their own. They make mistakes. They have big feelings. They learn about themselves and one another. And, little by little, they discover new ways to work through the things they face.
Children get to learn right alongside them.
Growing up comes with some pretty big things to figure out.
Throughout the series, Story Rock characters encounter social-emotional concepts and real-life experiences that young children may recognize from their own lives. Stories explore topics such as kindness, sharing, listening, confidence, acceptance, boundaries, friendship, understanding differences, managing big emotions, family changes, blended families, loss, and more.
Some stories are lighthearted and silly. Others gently approach subjects that can be difficult for young children to understand.
No matter the topic, each story is written to meet children in their world, using characters, situations, imagination, and language that make big ideas feel a little smaller and easier to talk about.
The goal isn’t to give children all the answers.
It’s to give them a place to begin the conversation.
All of those stories come together in one very special place: The Story Rock Adoption Center.
This is where the Story Rocks live, make friends, discover new things, get themselves into a little trouble from time to time, and wait for the day they might find a forever home.
While each Story Rock has a feature book centered around their own story, the characters don’t disappear when that book ends.
You’ll find familiar Story Rock friends popping up throughout other books in the series, sometimes playing an important part in another character’s adventure and sometimes simply appearing along the way.
That means children aren’t just reading a collection of unrelated books.
They’re getting to know a whole community.
They can follow their favorite characters, recognize old friends, meet new ones, and watch the world of the Story Rock Adoption Center continue to grow with every story.
Here’s where Every Rock Has a Story is a little different.
The Story Rocks are real.
Every featured Story Rock begins as an ordinary rock, individually selected, designed, and handcrafted by author Jessamine Hallow.
As each little rock takes on its own appearance and personality, a character begins to emerge. That character becomes part of the Story Rock world, receives a feature story of their own, and may continue appearing throughout other books in the series.
The illustrations bring that character to life on the page, but behind the illustrated character is the real, original Story Rock that inspired them.
And eventually, that Story Rock may leave the Adoption Center and find a forever home with a child.
There are no duplicates of the original character rocks. When a child adopts one, they’re not receiving a replica inspired by the book.
They’re adopting the actual Story Rock behind the character they’ve been reading about.
And even after an adoption, children can continue following their Story Rock and all of their friends through the books and the growing Every Rock Has a Story world.
Each Every Rock Has a Story series release includes 16 books and introduces 15 new Story Rock characters.
Each of those 15 characters has a feature story of their own while also becoming part of the larger Story Rock community.
And because every featured character begins with one original handcrafted Story Rock, each series release also creates just 15 new character rocks that can eventually be placed for adoption.
Once one of those Story Rocks finds a forever home, there isn’t another one just like it.
That’s part of what makes every adoption, and every Story Rock, so special.
The world of Every Rock Has a Story was created to extend beyond reading.
Children can meet Story Rocks through the books, follow their favorite characters across the series, adopt an original character when one is available, and even create a Story Rock character of their own at Anaya’s Story Rock Design Academy during participating events.
Families who adopt Story Rocks can also share their adventures with the Every Rock Has a Story Facebook community, allowing children to keep up with the friends their Story Rocks made before finding their forever homes (with help from their grown-up).
A Story Rock might begin as an ordinary little rock.
But add a name, a personality, some imagination, and a story…
and suddenly, it’s anything but ordinary.
No two Story Rocks are exactly alike.
Some are bold. Some are quiet. Some make mistakes. Some need a little extra help. Some are learning to be brave. Some are figuring out where they belong.
But every one of them has something worth discovering.
That’s the heart behind Every Rock Has a Story: helping children recognize that differences don’t make someone less worthy of friendship, understanding, kindness, or belonging.
Every character matters. Every story matters. Every child matters.
Because every rock is special and has their own story… just like you.
